Well, I always do, our boat is in a mud berth and there's always air in the gland when I next use the boat. I just made it part of the engine check habit - check the oil, turn on the inlet seacock, have a look round, and give the gland a squeeze!!! On my boat (29) it's easy, can be reached by leaning over the engine (before starting it!).
