Query by Chris Shields on headsail sizes, details as follows:
‘I’ dimension (height of rig above sheer line) 13.05 metres
‘J’ dimension (fore side mast to genoa tack position) 3.96 metres - this happens to be maximum length for spinnaker pole
Sails are as follows:
No. 1 – luff 12.7, LP 6.2 (155%)
Furling no. 1 – luff 12.3, LP 5.5 (140%)
Genoa no. 2 – luff 11.6, LP 4.9 (124%)
Genoa no. 3 (heavy weather) – luff 12.3, LP 3.2 (81%).
The above dimensions are as supplied by Westaway and if you are purchasing sails from any other sailmaker, it is important that they check the detail.
Areas can be calculated by multiplying luff length by 0.5 x LP dimension.
