We recently aquired a 34 with a 150 genoa and and No 3 in similar cloth (probably a cut down genoa).
We have two problems one is that the genoa needs winching all the way when raised because of friction in the Furlex grooves. The other is we can't point in stonger winds with either of these sails reefed.
Talking to the sailmakers they warned that undue friction can pull the luff shaft out of the furling drum (only held by some sort of clip), and lead to complete rebuild. Must be a problem with the current sails, was advised to have new luff tape applied which would be much less tight.
Now in the process of ordering a new sail, high clew, 300 sq ft, for use in the stronger winds.
Does anyone else have problems with the twin groove furlex ?
