Query by David regarding chute tack arrangement and sheet lead for gybing, is easily resolved with a 34. Firstly the tack line should pass either under the stem roller, or through a shackle or block fastened to the stem fitting (as Vyv suggests) and made fast to one of the bow cleats (or further aft as convenient). Most of the time when reaching, the tack of the chute will be perhaps 1 to 2 metres away from the stem fitting.

As far as gybing is concerned, I have found that you can manage with only one sheet and as you gybe, allow the chute to fly forward like a flag and then somebody up forward will simply pass the sheet around the forestay and back into the new lead position aft end cockpit – no rush and no hassle, simply sheet in when you are ready.

Hope this helps and it will be interesting to hear how other people deal with the chute.

Mike
