We have a comprehensive knowledge of the whole Sadler and Starlight range, with original build experience and repairs expertise over the past 10 years.

We have now extended this speciality into the Moody range of yachts, particularly those located in South Devon.  Available to Moody owners is the whole range of expertise now developed and Mike's knowledge of Moody's after 6 years at Marine Projects in Plymouth.  All work is carried out with Mike's close supervsion at Baltic Wharf Boatyard, Totnes. 

A lifetime of boating in a variety of sailboats and over twenty five years involvement in the yacht industry has led to Mike Lucas Yachting providing a specialised service in Sadler, Starlight and Moody brokerage. Mike spent some six years as Production Director with Marine Projects, responsible for Moody and Sigma production and then five years with Sadler. During his time with Sadler, he made many improvements to the yachts and developed the Starlight range. As a result of this background, we have a profound knowledge of yachts built by Sadler and a good working knowledge of Moody yachts built through the 80's and 90's. 

Perhaps of greater significance is twenty years in dinghy and cruiser racing and ownership of various yachts over the years, including Contessa 26 and 32 and latterly, ownership of traditional wooden yachts. Some forty years of cruising and racing in a variety of boats has given Mike a genuine feel for yachts in general and an ability to talk with knowledgeable confidence to buyers. This all helps to create the right impact and leads us to believe that we can represent the vendor's interests better than most and that we can find the buyer the right boat.

A comprehensive "after sales service" and yacht management is provided in the Dartmouth/Torbay area.  There is now considerable interest in owners bringing their yachts to MLY from within the West Country and also from the Solent area.  Increasingly popular is the concept of calling in at Dartmouth during a Summer cruise and leaving your boat with us for several weeks to deal with a required program of work.  We provide:

  • technical advice on engine, rig, sails and interior equipment
  • supply and installation of deck gear
  • valeting and preparation for sale
  • winter refits, teak decks and cockpit seating replacement
  • engine and general maintenance, yacht care and damage repair
  • Osmosis work and Grp repairs
  • insurance and Finance

WE ASK THE VENDOR:

  • to make out specification and inventory
  • to complete Listing Agreement
  • to discuss boat detail and agree selling price
  • to set up viewing arrangements

WE ASK THE BUYER:

  • to identify type and size of yacht required
  • to define ideal rig, keel and inventory
  • to give price guide and timing of purchase

LEAVE THE REST TO US:

  • we advertise and deal with the admin
  • we know the boats and have the contacts
  • we match the buyer to the boat

THE BENEFITS

For the vendor. We can present your boat to the market in a knowledgeable style, unique to Mike Lucas Yachting and charge a reduced rate of 6% (plus vat) for boats with a sale value above £30,000.  This is increased to 7% for value £20,000 to £30,000 and below this figure, commission fee is 8%.  Commission is only payable should we sell your boat for you. NO SALE, NO FEE.

For the buyer. There is no cost to the buyer for this bespoke and unusual service, which provides a range of Sadler and Starlight yachts to consider and a detail knowledge of every boat.
